Welcome to the Courtney McMahon School of Irish Dance

E
xpert Tuition in Irish Dance
We excel in instilling a passion for Irish dance and music in young people, and guiding them towards e
xcellence in dance.

Our teaching and coaching builds children’s self-confidence, physical fitness, skill, co-ordination and musicality. It is also a lot of fun and provides young people with many opportunities to socialise and make friends.

A background in Sport Science informs our approach to teaching and coaching and allows us to personalise programmes of learning to suit a child's developmental stage, motivational make-up and receptivness to mastering sequences of co-ordinated movement.

Location and Venue
Based at Townley Grammar School, a centre of excellence for the Arts in Bexleyheath, we are within easy driving distance of many parts of south east London and north Kent.  Classes take place in the Performing Arts Centre.  Our venue has ample free and safe parking.

Performance Opportunities
Irish dance is very entertaining to watch and we provide dancers with many and varied opportunities to demonstrate their growing competence and skill.  We hold regular school socials, stage an annual theatre production, perform at festivals, private functions, civic receptions as well as charitable and corporate events. In addition, many dancers enjoy the thrill of competing at local, regional and national competitions.

Classes
We offer a good choice of weekday and weekend classes, tailored to suit age and ability, and we accept new starters throughout the year.  Most classes take place in a purpose built dance studio with a sprung harlequin floor, full-length mirrors, good natural lighting and ventilation.

 Class Feis
An annual event that is eagerly anticipated by dancers, their families and friends. Young dancers gain invaluabe stage experience, and parents get to view their children's development in a supportive, friendly and fun environment.

Costumes
Dancers do not need fancy costumes to compete.  In fact, our governing body has made a ruling that dancers cannot wear bespoke costumes until they have achieved a high standard of dance.  Girls can wear a plain blouse and skirt, and boys can wear black trousers and a plain shirt.  Costs can be kept in check!

Officially Registered and Regulated
We are registered with, and regulated by, An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha, Dublin, and England's leading dance education bodies, Youth Dance England and the National Dance Teachers' Association.

Celtic Manoeuvres
We deliver high-end Irish entertainment for corporate and private clients.  Our most skilled and e
xperienced dancers have frequent opportunities to perform in a paid capacity.  Corporate bookings are the domain of postpubescent dancers, but weddings and private events often demand very young dancers.

How to Join our School
We run a school where every individual counts.

Our classes are well structured, and we have created a fun but challenging learning environment that encourages children to quickly progress towards their potential as dancers.

We focus on building children's confidence and self-belief, and recognise and reward sustained application and effort. Our teaching environment has a task mastery focus that promotes a child's self-worth through a progressive acquisition of skill.
